Christmas is the time to be thinking of gifts. As we shop for others we tend to also shop for ourselves, well at least I know that I DO! But what are we buying? Is it what we need? Probably not – it is more likely what we want, or think we want.
I would like to make a suggestion to you for a gift for yourself as well as the ones you care for, The Gift Of Touch.
From the very moment we are born we crave touch. It is the beginning of how we build self-esteem and how we begin to understand feelings of attachment. Children want to be held for comfort, to feel safe, and to know they are loved. Adults show increased self-esteem when they have regular physical contact with another trusted person. We are all at risk of being starved of touch no matter what our age may be. There is a great deal of research indicating that something as simple as holding hands can decrease anxiety and reduce anxiety related physical disorders.

Yes reflexology is wonderful for them too. You may be thinking “ my dog just hates me touching his paws.” Whilst this is a natural response – in the wild a dog’s survival depends upon them having healthy feet – with persistence and a gentle touch one can train their dog to enjoy this. Start by just holding their feet gently and lovingly for a few minutes each day. Keep this up and within a short time they will learn to trust you handling their feet. You will then be able to work with their reflexes.
In Canine Reflexology pressure is applied to all four feet, and as with us 2 leggers, reflexology uses specific spots on the feet to correspond to specific body areas, organs and glands, with the left feet representing the left half of the body and right feet representing the right side.

If you want to try this on your dog you can start by working on his toe pads, gently and often. Just hold the foot gently and massage the pads, small circles and gentle presses, not for long, short and often is the best bet. Then work on the dew-claw, or the dew-claw area if they have been removed. Pinch gently on both sides of the webbing, this helps the lymph vessels clear toxins. Continue up his legs with nice gentle but firm strokes.

Just like you, your dog can reap the many benefits of reflexology, reduce pain in a dog suffering from arthritis and improve their quality of life. Reduce stress, improve blood circulation and reduce aggression. Reflexology can help conditions such as injuries, muscle soreness, digestive disorders and hormone imbalances.

If your dog has a medical condition, please consult a veterinarian. This information is for you education and is not meant to replace or override the advice of your veterinarian.

As an herb, lavender has been in documented use for over 2,500 years.
In ancient times lavender was used for mummification and perfume by the Egyptian’s, Phoenicians, and peoples of Arabia. The Greeks and the Romans bathed in lavender scented water and it was from the Latin word “lavo” meaning “to wash” that the herb took it’s name.
During the First World War, nurses bathed soldiers’ wounds with lavender washes.

15ml bottle $27.30

Lavender Oil: A Powerful Antifungal that Fights Skin Conditions.

New research from Portugal has found that lavender oil is a powerful antifungal agent that fights and prevents skin and nail infections, including candida albicans. Published in the Journal of Medical Microbiology, the study found that lavender essential oil exhibits amazing protection against a wide range of pathogenic fungi – working better than all known antifungal drugs at doing so.
“In the last few years there has been an increase in the incidence of fungal diseases, particularly among immuno-compromised patients”, said professors Ligia Salgueiro and Eugenia Pinto from University of Coimbra, authors of the study. “ Unfortunately there is also increasing resistance to antifungal drugs”. I has been found through research that “essential oils may be cheap, efficient alternatives that have minimal side effects”
The team observed in tests that lavender oil effectively killed fungi that cause a wide range of infections on skin, hair, and nails, including those categorized as athletes foot, ringworm, and candida albicans. Lavender oil was more effective than antifungal drugs and causes no negative side effects.
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has a fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous aroma that is soothing and refreshing. Because it is the most versatile of all essential oils, no home should be without it. Lavender is an adaptogen, and therefore can assist the body when adapting to stress or imbalances. It is a great aid for relaxing and winding down before bedtime, yet has balancing properties that can also boost stamina and energy. Therapeutic-grade lavender is highly regarded for skin and beauty. It may be used to soothe and cleanse common cuts, bruises, and skin irritations and burns.
Since ancient times, lavender has been used as a tranquilizer, sleep aid and digestive aid. Lavender also soothes an upset stomach and can be used to treat coughs and colds, influenza, headaches, fatigue and stress.

For lavender tea, use 1 to 3 teaspoons of flowers per cup of boiling water. For a relaxing bath, place a handful of lavender flowers in a cloth bag and run bath water over it. Or add strong lavender tea, tincture or oil to your bath.

Lavender Antibacterial Spray

This spray smells wonderful and can double as a disinfectant and air freshener. It’s perfect for garbage cans.
1 cup water
20 drops lavender essential oil
Combine water and oil in a spray bottle and shake well to blend. To use, spray into the air or onto the surface you’re disinfecting.

Lavender Jelly
This wonderful lavender jelly will truly delight you and your family. Serve as a dessert with ice cream, pudding, or cream.

Lavender Jelly
3 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup dried lavender flowers
Juice of 1 lemon (approximately 1/4 cup)
1 (1 3/4-ounces) box powdered pectin
4 cups sugar
In a large saucepan over high heat bring water just to a boil. Remove from heat, stir in dried lavender flowers, and let steep for 20 minutes.
Strain mixture into a large pot, discarding the lavender flowers. Stir in lemon juice and pectin; continue stirring until the pectin is dissolved.
Over high heat, bring the mixture to a boil; add sugar. When the jelly solution returns to a hard rolling boil, let it boil for 2 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Boil Times:
2 minutes – soft gel
4 minutes – medium gel
Testing for “jell” (thickness – I keep a metal tablespoon sitting in a glass of ice water, then take a half spoonful of the mix and let it cool to room temperature on the spoon. If it thickens up to the consistency I like, then I know the jelly is ready. If not, I mix in a little more pectin (about 1 teaspoon to 1/2 of another package) and bring it to a boil again for 1 minute
After boiling, transfer the jelly into hot sterilized jars. Fill them to within 1/4 inch of the top, wipe any spilled jam off the top, seat the lid and tighten the ring around them.
Makes five 1/2 pints.

Facial Reflexology is a combination of traditional South American facial reflex zones, Chinese acupressure, Vietnamese Facial Reflexology and a modern understanding of neuro anatomy. The methodology works through the meridians, the vascular and central nervous systems of the body

During a Facial Reflexology session, neuro-vascular points, reflex zones, and certain neurological points are gently stimulated by hand, using only the finger-tips. This gentle stimulation is believed to send impulses through the central nervous system and the meridians to the physical body and the major organs. In addition it may assist blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, and it may also assist hormonal balance. The treatment is very relaxing and stimulating.

Organic Rosehip oil is used as a lubricant. Rosehip oil has a very high antioxidant content which is useful for preventing signs of ageing.

As with all types of reflexology, the primary aim of Facial Reflexology is stimulation of the body to invoke healing. Some added benefits of Facial Reflexology are that the application of Rosehip oil combined with the gentle stimulation of the facial tissue helps the regeneration of tissue and tones the muscles of the face thus helping to minimize lines and wrinkles!

The theory of the reflexologies are the same and the practices are similar. The map of the body is replicated on the feet, hands, ears and face. Reflexes that are “out of balance” may feel tense, hard, grainy, hot, cold, hollow, tender, painful or numb.

Facial Reflexology

What is a treatment like?

An important part of your initial treatment is the taking of a detailed case history. This, together with information gathered during the first treatment, will be used as a basis for the preparation of your own personal treatment plan for subsequent sessions
Facial Reflexology is a gentle non-invasive therapy. During your treatment you remain fully clothed and relax on a treatment couch.

Facial Reflexology treatment can assist in integrating and balancing the whole Being via the connections between the central nervous system and the meridians.

Did you know that reflexology can help you detox your body? Yes reflexology is a great way to detoxify the body. This therapy works on all major systems of the body and can give amazing results in a short amount of time. Reflexology as a first step to a cleanse or body detox is a great choice.

In today’s environment there are toxins around us. We eat, breath and absorb them in our bodies which creates the many health problems that we see today. A full reflexology treatment can help you:

    * Be more energetic
* Reduce stress
* Improve a sluggish immune system
* Increase energy and improve blood circulation

The more that the blood and the lymphatic fluids are flowing freely, the more your organs will benefit and begin to work with full capacity. Reflexology helps return the natural blood flows throughout the body while special techniques help lymphatic fluids drain consistently.

During a detox diet program your internal systems and organs will probably be working harder or differently from the way they would generally. Reflexology can help the body detox by balancing organs like the kidneys and liver, and enabling the intestines to carry out their cleansing function without causing any unnecessary pressure.

Reflexology treatments will also show any potential imbalance and the practitioner can work at a preventative level.

FACIAL REFLEXOLOGY TIP
Two easy reflex points on your face for you to stimulate. Place both thumbs just inside the eye socket, up against the brow bone. Place your elbows on your desk or a table and then lower the weight of your head onto your thumbs. Hold the pressure and then release. This movement is calming and feels good.

Do you ever wake up in the morning and your feet ache? Or completed a long run and afterwards the bottoms of your feet throb? If so, you may be experiencing plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is a common diagnosis for pain in the heel, foot arch or tight feeling in the calves. This pain is caused by tiny tears in the plantar fascia ligament which attaches to the heel bone. These tears cause inflammation and the individual may have symptoms of painful aching, stiffness, burning or stabbing on the bottom of the foot. If you are experiencing this kind of pain in your one or both of your feet, it is best to first see your doctor or podiatrist.

According to Dr. Andrew Weil – “Reflexology is a foot-focused therapy that I think is more than just a relaxing spa treat. It’s a health- supporting treatment. I’ve prescribed reflexology for plantar fasciitis and other foot and ankle problems, with good results.”
Reflexology can help by relieving the pain of plantar fasciitis by relaxing and stretching muscles and ligaments in the feet. Circulation to the foot and lower leg is improved by reflexology therapy. Most people experience less pain and improved mobility when walking or standing after three to six reflexology sessions.
